Udhagamandalam: The forest department and the C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC) conducted a one-day nature camp for teachers at Gudalur recently.
In his inaugural address the District Forest Officer, Gudalur Division, K. Kandasamy said that by creating an awareness about the environment among the teachers the younger generation could be made aware of the benefits of conservation.
He added that for protecting nature and managing natural resources the forest department and environmentalists should join hands. Devala near Gudalur had for long been referred to as the Cherapunji of the South in view of it being a high precipitation area. However, of late, the weather pattern there had changed. About ten more nature camps would be organised during January. The Assistant Conservator of Forests, Ziauddin, the Principal, Bharath Montessori Training Institute, Manikkasamy, and the President, Centre for Consumer and Human Rights and Environmental Protection, S. Sivasubramaniam also spoke.
